Acoustic Guitar Neck Rough-sawn AA Grade

Unique, sustainably sourced Australian Blackwood (Acacia melanoxylon) from the Otway Ranges in Victoria. The timber is processed to ensure the grain is as straight as possible to minimise long-grain runout and increase stability, strength and acoustic qualities. All one-piece neck blanks are back sawn: grain running perpendicular to the fingerboard.

Please note that this is a general product description and each neck block will be unique. Photos are presented as a guide only.

Minimum dimensions:

570mm x 80mm (LxW)

570mm x 90mm (LxW)

570mm x 100mm (LxW)

The shape will suit the standard 25.5" (648mm) scale length with some room to move. There is also allowance for various break angles. See outlines on photos for a guide.

Finish: Bandsaw and Planer

Density guide (Light, Medium, Dense): Medium Light to Medium. We do not sell or recommend dense Blackwood necks for acoustic guitars.

This timber has been air dried and has reached an EMC of approximately 10%.

Blemishes/Defects: Timber is part of nature and unlike man-made products it may have natural features that are undesirable for luthiers. Although these features can purvey uniqueness and authenticity they may also be seen as imperfect by some. We have made every effort to highlight any blemishes or defects as best as we can. Please rely on the photos for the most accurate representation of the timber.

Disclamer: It is recommended that the luthier ensure that the timber has reached the appropriate EMC for their environment and application, and is  stabilised to their working conditions before glueing. Otway Tonewoods holds no responsibility for the luthier failing to condition the timber for their needs. We give a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all products if it fails to meet the description.

Highly figured timber can be difficult to work with, particularly when bending sides or planing. We will not be liable for damage or breakages of the timber during construction.
