AAA Satinbox OM Back & Side Set.

Unique, sustainably sourced Satinbox (Nematolepis squamea) from the Otway Ranges in Victoria. Satinbox has a growing reputation for instruments, having one of the highest stiffness to densities around. This timber will need to be thinned more than other timbers to bring out its rich, clear acoustic qualities.

This set has both fiddleback figure and will appeal to those after a rich clear sound with excellent sustain. Also having the appeal of limited availability.

The timber is processed to ensure the grain is as straight as possible to minimise long-grain runout and increase stability, strength and acoustic qualities.

Blemishes/Defects: none observed. The side set has less figure than the back set.

Disclamer: It is recommended that the luthier ensure that the timber has reached the appropriate EMC for their environment and application, and is  stabilised to their working conditions before glueing. Otway Tonewoods holds no responsibility for the luthier failing to condition the timber for their needs. We give a 100% satisfaction guarantee on all products if it fails to meet the description.

Highly figured timber can be difficult to work with, particularly when bending sides or planing. We will not be liable for damage or breakages of the timber during construction.
